Merle W. File, 73, of Edwardsville, IL died January 14, 2008 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 20, 2008 from 3-7 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Those wishing to attend the graveside service need to be at the funeral home by 9:15 a.m. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Edwardsville, IL.
Merle was born July 5, 1934 in Mulberry Grove, IL to Wallace and Mayre (Koontz) File. He married Luanna Wilson on March 12, 1960 in Geneseo, IL. She preceded him in death on March 29, 1998. He later married Mary Critchfield on July 15, 2000 in Edwardsville, IL.
Merle was a crane operator for Alcoa for 34 years retiring in 1992. He was an U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a former member of Moline Gospel Temple where he volunteered as a Sunday School bus driver for 30 years. He was currently a member of First Baptist Church, Edwardsville, IL where he was very active on many committees. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
