Merle "Stretch" G. Helderman, 73, of Moline, died September 3, 2008 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Community Church of the Nazarene (4545 Avenue of the Cities, Moline). Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. (6601-38th Ave. Moline). Burial will be Monday Sept. 8, 2008 at 9 a.m. in Rock Island National Cemetery with military honors being conducted. The procession to the cemetery will leave at 8:30 a.m. from the funeral home on Monday. Memorials may be made to the church.
Stretch was born May 14, 1935 in Indiana to Rollie and Lucille Dicus Helderman. He married Carolyn J. Hollingsworth on July 14, 1957 in Linton, IN.
Stretch owned and operated Stretch's Hair Dimension in Moline for 47 years, where he retired in November of 1999. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the 101st Air Borne Division and was a member of Community Church of the Nazarene where he was a trustee and helped with the maintenance of the church. He enjoyed boating and spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his dog Hoot.
