Merle Edith Oleson, 92, of East Moline died October 20, 2006 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, IL.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2006 at First Evangelical Free Church, Moline, IL. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Christian Friendliness or the mission program at First Evangelical Free Church, Moline.
Merle was born May 27, 1914 in Sherrard, IL to Gustav and Lela Holmes Oakberg. She married Arvid Oleson on September 7, 1951, in Moline.
Merle received her B.A. from Monmouth College and her M.A. degrees in Spanish from the University of Madrid (Spain) and New York University.
Merle taught at high schools in Geneseo, Monmouth, Princeton, NJ, and Berne, IN. She also taught English in Spain. She was an organist/pianist at First Evangelical Free Church, Moline and First Christian Church, Moline. During its formative years, she was a pianist for Quad-City Youth for Christ. She was a member of the Teacher's Honorary Organization and had worked at Deere and Company before starting her teaching career.
