Michael R. Schroeder, 62, of Davenport, IA, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.
A memorial mass will be held at 12 p.m. with a visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Parish, 4105 N. Division St., Davenport, IA. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, Mike requests donations to GiGi’s Play House of the Quad Cities for support services for his grandson, Lincoln Sweeney. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mike was born on June 29, 1955, in Dubuque, IA, the son of L. Richard and Patricia Ann Bauer Schroeder. He married Kathy Kunkel on September 1, 1978, at Holy Trinity Church in Dubuque, IA. He worked for Banworth & Udelhoven Furniture for 43 years before his illness took him away from his favorite thing to do – sell furniture. Work was never a job. It was a pleasure.
Mike was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Davenport. Mike loved the great outdoors, especially the north woods of Minnesota (Woman Lake, Lake Erie, and Lake St. Clair, Ontario, Canada). He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing at Palmer Hills as a member of the Fleck Group for over 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Schroeder, Davenport, IA; parents, L. Richard and Patricia Schroeder, Dubuque, IA; children, Angie (Jared) Smith, Manhattan Beach, CA, Katie (Nick Seacord) Schroeder, Kansas City, MO, Amy (Matthew) Sweeney, Davenport, IA, and Kenny (Stephanie) Schroeder, Eldridge, IA; his most special treasures: 9 grandchildren, Andrew Eichmeier, Weston Eichmeier, Olivia Smith, Tessa Smith, Nile Sweeney, Eliza Seacord, Finnegan Sweeney, Maisie Schroeder, and Lincoln Sweeney; siblings, Dave (Deb) Schroeder, Dubuque, IA, Mary (John) Ervolino, Dubuque, IA, Tom (Mary Kay) Schroeder, Dubuque, IA, Paul (Chris) Schroeder, Omaha, NE; mother-in-law, Marie Kunkel, Davenport, IA; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joe and Catherine Bauer; paternal grandparents, L.A. and Elicia Schroeder; father-in-law, Kenneth Kunkel; sister-in-law, Linda Lou DeVault.
