Michael Kennedy Sheley, 72, of Moline, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2019, at his home.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 7, 2019, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to his family for funds to be established in his name.
Michael was born on October 24, 1946, in Moline, the son of Dale W. and Jacquelyn L. (Dempsey) Sheley. He graduated from Moline High School and attended Black Hawk College, University of Illinois, Western Illinois University, National Labor College at the George Meany Campus, Northeastern Drug Enforcement, Los Angeles Institute of Hypnosis, and numerous other schools. He married Jean Hunter on July 16, 1966, in Moline. He later married Lani Albright Chance on August 3, 1973, in Moline.
He retired from the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department as a Lieutenant after 29 years. He retired after 14 years with the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council as a Field Representative, actively serving as a Board Member for two years and Chairman of the Board for one year. He was also active with Rock Island County Lodge 61 of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police State Lodge.
Michael loved riding his motorcycle and his 21 trips to the Black Hills Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, target shooting, and dancing.
Survivors include his wife, Lani; children, Tiffany Sheley, and Kelene Sheley (Andrew Rousey); grandson, Aidan Donahoe; siblings, Kathleen LeMaster, Jacquelyn (Gary) Osborne, and Ed (Nancy) DeBaker; sisters-in-law, Pat Sheley and Carol Sheley; special friends, Jeff & Linda Hindman, Craig & Roxanne Thayer, John LeMaster (Marti DeVore), and Dave Lindberg & Tori Jacquin; and his two little tiny poodles, “the girls”, Misty & Brandi.
He was preceded by his parents, daughter, Kelly Lynn Chance; siblings, Patricia Woods and Jim Sheley.
Thank you for the thoughts, prayers and support during this difficult time and a very special thank you to Michael’s sister, Jackie and her husband Gary Osborne for their total dedication to Michael in his time of need.
