Mike "Fergy" Ferguson, 66, of Silvis, died Friday, July 13, 2012, at Trinity Rock Island, after battling an illness over the past year.
The family has requested privacy in the grieving process. Cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no visitation or funeral services. Friends who would like to express condolences may send cards to Mary Jean Ferguson, Mike's wife. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Moline is assisting the family.
Mike was born February 18, 1946, in Moline, IL to Gilbert and Louise Ferguson. He married Mary Jean Spaur in July of 1965 and he began working at John Deere Harvester in East Moline the same year. He worked at John Deere for 36 years and retired in 2001.
His passions in life were golf, the Packers, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and his family. Rarely did he miss an opportunity to play a round of golf. He was fortunate to play many rounds of golf in other states and in December 2011 he fulfilled a dream by playing the world famous links at Pebble Beach. Mike also volunteered each summer to Marshall the 15th tee at the John Deere Classic. Each fall brought back another passion, football. He loved the Packers; however, he was most passionate about the Hawkeye sport programs and especially their football team. He loved his family and wife, Mary Jean, very much.
Those left to celebrate Mike's life are: his best friend and wife, Mary Jean; his two sons, Mike (Francie) and Scott (Amy); grandchildren Greg, Bridgette, Brayden, Jordan, and Cody; his brother Ted; and his golfing buddies at Golfmohr Golf Course and friends throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his parents.
