Miriam F. Retz, 67, of Georgetown, TX , formerly of Moline, died December 22, 2007 at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Houston, TX.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 at Peace Lutheran Church (20828 Friedens Rd, Port Byron, IL). Visitation will be Thursday from 3-7 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church in Port Byron, Christ Lutheran Church, Georgetown, TX or American Diabetes Association.
Miriam was born September 6, 1940 in Carroll, IA to Edward and Vivian Combacker Osburn.
She married Dr. Richard Retz on December 15, 1962 in Des Moines, IA.
Miriam graduated with a B.S. degree in nursing from the University of Iowa in 1962. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Port Byron and was active in several Bible study groups and church activities. She was an active member of the KT Chapter of PEO where she served as president from 1982 to 1984. She received the Lilly for Life 50 year insulin award. She was a lifetime member of the University of Iowa Alumni Association and a member of the University of Iowa Presidents Club. She was also a member of the Augustana Endowment Society and the Augustana Presidents Society. As a spouse, she enjoyed participating in Rotary Club activities. Miriam was a devoted and loving mother and wife.
