Molly Ann DeFrieze, age 73 of Moline passed away in her sleep on March 1, 2010 at home.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 4th at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Estates, Moline. Memorials may be made to the Animal Aide in Moline.
Molly was born on May 9th, 1936 in Moline. She was the daughter of Greenville "Bebe" and Margaret Hynes Linder.
Molly graduated from Moline High School in 1954. She had a "true artist soul" her entire life. She loved all forms of painting from charcoal to pastel to oils. She also worked with stained glass, sculpture, and has wall murals all over the Quad Cities. Molly was a florist by trade working at many Quad City florist shops. She was a master designer for Ronsley's of Chicago, a town she loved and lived in for many years.
She owned her own business in Moline on the Avenue of the Cities called "Molly's Butterfly Craft Shoppe" where she taught macramé and painting classes. She also designed for the Festival of Trees for many years. She worked as a nurse's aide at Moline Public Hospital and as a teacher's aide at Hawthorne Irving School in Rock Island.
She was an active volunteer in the Quad City community including support to the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies, Bix Festival, Festival of Trees, Obama campaign, and Rock Island Arsenal Military Ball. Her favorite color was cobalt blue. She loved butterflies, cats, skydiving and working in her gardens.
Survivors include her children Laurie McCune of Moline, Harold and Jeanette of Prophetstown, Sue and Brian Schebler of the Virgin Islands and David and Karen DeFrieze of East Moline; 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
She married Harold DeFrieze and was preceded in death by her brother Mike Linder.
