Myron Swanson, 76, of Sherrard, IL, died on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Trinity Rock Island. He was surrounded by his wife, four daughters and loving family. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012, at First Lutheran Church, 3117 175th Ave., Sherrard. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Sherrard Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Building Fund.
Myron was born on August 5, 1936, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of John Verner and Blanche B. (Peterson) Swanson. He married Fern Johnson on June 25, 1955, in Los Angeles. Myron owned his own business, Quad City Boiler in Sherrard. He later worked as a pipefitter for Northwest Mechanical, retiring in May of 2002. Myron took care and pride in his work, and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and passion with other pipefitters. Myron was a member of the United States Navy Reserve. He was the Village Trustee for Sherrard, a member of the Mercer County Board, and the Richland Grove Township Supervisor for 20 years. Also, he was a member of First Lutheran Church of Sherrard. He spent his time in the church choir, on church council, and on the church Building and Property committee where he and several other men were active in building the new church. A gentle, loving man, his smile and laughter will be missed by family and friends.
