Myrtle Sheldon

Myrtle M. Sheldon, 94, of Orion, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Beulah Presbyterian Church, 9221 148th Avenue, Orion, IL.  Visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm, Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Orion.  Burial will be at Reynolds Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Beulah Presbyterian Church or the Orion Food Pantry.

Myrtle was born on April 23, 1927, in Rock Island, the daughter of Andrew and Gladys (Rath) Fluegel. She married G. Gilbert “Shorty” Sheldon on January 15, 1949, in Coal Valley. He proceeded her in death on March 31, 1994. Myrtle was a Deacon, elder, and member of the Christian Education Committee of Beulah Presbyterian Church. Myrtle was a former director for the Orion Food Pantry. Myrtle was also a former trustee of the Rural Township Cemetery Board. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, crafting, sewing, and baking.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Gregory James (Samantha) Sheldon, Orion, and Sarah Ann (Justin) Sheldon, Chicago; great grandchildren, Adalynn Sheldon, Kinsley Sheldon, Natalie Sheldon, with one on the way in 2022; former daughter-in-law and friend, Lisa Erickson, Andalusia; and adopted family, Kelly (Kathy) Fredrickson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Jean Kissell; son, Jerry Sheldon; brother, Junior Fluegel, and sister, Gloria Shoultz.
