Nadine Mae Smart, 89, of Milan, died August 1, 2010 at her residence.
A private graveside service will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Donations to The Fisher Center for Alzheimers Research Center are requested in lieu of flowers.
Nadine was born on May 11th 1921. She lived in Newton, Iowa, with her parents John and Ethel Bixby, her sister Maxine Lee, and brothers Don and Jack before moving to Moline in 1940. In 1944 she married Edward G. Smart, fellow employee at Eagle Signal Company and followed him to San Antonio, Texas where he became an Army Air Force Pilot and she was a Red Cross volunteer.
Nadine was a member of the United Methodist church in Moline for over 65 years. She loved children and remained active in the Hamilton Elementary School PTA in Moline, long after serving as its first president in 1952. She enjoyed golf, biking, camping, and co-piloting small airplanes with her husband to visit out of state friends and relatives.
She is survived by her daughters Nannette Stone and Dayna Smart, and by Curtis Wisely, her "like a son" nephew. Online condolences may be expressed to Nadine's family by visiting her obituary at www.esterdahl.com.
