Nancy J. Emery, 79, of Andalusia, IL, died Thursday, December 21, 2017, at home, peacefully surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. with a visitation from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Edgington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Andalusia Public Library or Heartland Hospice, Davenport, IA.
Nancy was born on June 26, 1938, in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of Howard and Lorraine Elgin Olson. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1956, after which time she married William “Bill” L. Emery, Sr. on August 12, 1956, in Galesburg.
Nancy worked in various capacities for John Deere Parts Milan for 22 years, retiring in 1997 from John Deere Health Care, Moline.
In her early years, Nancy was an avid golfer and runner. She also walked the Grand Canyon on three occasions at ages 50, 60, and 70, after which she said she was too old to attempt again. On two occasions, Nancy and Bill worked summers at Yellowstone National Park. She loved to read, go to the movies, and travel. Nancy especially loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, William “Bill” Emery, Andalusia, IL; children, Jim (Amy) Emery, Reynolds, IL, Pam (John) Fuhr, Taylor Ridge, IL, Dave Emery, TX, and William (Ann) Emery, Jr., AZ; sisters, Shirley (Donald) Jacobs, NJ, Terrie Brubaker, Galesburg, IL; brothers, Mike (Steph) Johnson and Pat (Linda) Johnson, all of Galesburg, IL; her husband’s family and many other family members and loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Marcel “Moose” Johnson; mother-and-father-in-law, James and Florence Emery; brothers-in-law, John “Bob” Emery, Richard “Dick” Emery, Otis “Butch” Martin, Jr.; niece, Deb Jacobs.
The family wishes to extend a heart-felt thank you to Heartland Hospice nurses, Darla, Kara, and Chelsie, who were a great support to the whole family. Nancy received such wonderful care from the entire staff at Hospice. A special thank you to Hospice Spiritual Care Coordinator, Keith Morrison, the one thing Nancy really enjoyed was the music and prayer provided by Keith.
