Neil William Dahl, 62, of Orion, passed away April 22, 2025, at UnityPoint Health Trinity, Rock Island.
A Celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Ark/Chapel in Orion, where the family asks anyone willing to share a favorite or funny story about Neil. Following the service, the family will greet visitors until 3 p.m. Donations may be made to the Orion Volunteer Fire Department or a favorite Orion community service. The family plans to have an additional gathering at Neil’s farm at a later date.
Neil was born on July 24, 1962, in Moline, the son of Duane “Bill” and G. Mardelle (Anderson) Dahl. Above all, Neil was an incredibly proud father and grandfather who would fill anyone’s ears with praise of the accomplishments of his kids and grandkids. He was the go-to problem solver for the family and could create or fix nearly anything that he set his mind to. He worked as the Street Superintendent for the Village of Orion and also farmed in the Orion and Sherrard areas. Neil was a lifelong volunteer firefighter and EMT in Sherrard and Orion. He was an avid volleyball player, woodworker, and a well-known “Mr. Fix It”. If there was a volleyball court anywhere nearby, whether you liked it or not, you’d be roped into playing and he would proudly take the title of oldest guy on the court. His presence was always known when he entered a room; his personality radiated positivity and his voice was never subtle. He will be deeply missed by all of those who had the pleasure of interacting with him.
Survivors include his son, Jake Dahl, Appleton, WI; daughter, Niki (Scott) Griffith, Moline; grandchildren, Andy and Charlie Griffith, both of Moline; siblings, Linda (Mike) Cothron, Moline, Lori (Don) Sindelar, Sherrard, Emily Seaholm, Tacoma, WA, Annika (Scott) Kerker, Orion; many cousins including Jeff and Jay Dahl who were like brothers to him, as well as many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Nels; brother-in-law, Lane Seaholm, and many beloved aunts and uncles.
