Norman F. Hammitt, age 90, of Colona, died Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematoy, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Norman was born March 8, 1918 in Eagle Grove, IA, the son of Edward F. and Cora (Scheppe) Hammitt. He married Fern Croxell on July 3, 1942 in Stanbury, MO. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2006.
Norman was employed as a machine operator for Western Structural Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1983. He really enjoyed listening and playing country music, and was a member of the bands: Norm & the Country Gentlemen, the Westerners and Norm & the Telecasters. Norman most of all loved spending time with his family.
