Olive “Elaine” Vinzant, 85, of Moline, IL, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, IL.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at St. Francis Hall at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3205 60th Street. Her body has been donated to science and cremation rites will be accorded. At a later date, inurnment will be at Moline Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Osteoporosis Foundation. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Olive was born on April 16, 1931, in Monrovia, CA, the daughter of Arthur and Myrtle Ball Fitch. She married Joseph M. Vinzant in Moline in 1962. They were divorced in 1974.
Olive graduated from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, AR; worked as a Continuity Writer at WQUA Radio in Moline from 1956 until 1970; was the Director of Volunteer Services at East Moline Mental Health Center from 1970 until 1979; worked as a Procurement Analyst for the U.S. Army Armament, Munitions and Chemical Command at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1993.
Ms. Vinzant enjoyed playing the piano and organ and served as the organist at Unity Church of Christianity in Moline for many years. Over the years she belonged to various community organizations, among them the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Rock Island County Historical Society, the Rock Island County Genealogical Society, the Rock Island Arsenal Historical Society and the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include her son, Scott (Amy Marie) Vinzant, Milan, IL, and Chad (Amy Sue) Vinzant, Moline, IL; granddaughters, Anna, Sarah and Grace Vinzant. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Myrtle Fitch; sisters, Genevieve Fitch, Moline, IL, and Joy Larson of Santa Barbara, CA; brother, John Fitch, Dayton, OH.
