Paul Leonard Johnson, age 87, of Woburn, MA, formerly of Orion, died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Sawtelle Family Hospice House, Reading, MA.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church 1001-9th Street, Orion, IL. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22nd at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. Orion. Burial will be in Western Township Cemetery, Orion with military honors conducted by Orion American Legion Post #255. Memorials may be made to his family for a fund to be established.
Paul was born August 10, 1920 in Galesburg, IL, the son of Sigfrid L. and Hulda (Nelson) Johnson. He married Sylvia B. Shelley on November 23, 1941 in North Henderson, IL. She preceded him in death on November 29, 1998.
Paul was employed as a pattern maker with General Pattern Corporation, Moline, retiring in 1983. He was a navy veteran of World War II. Paul was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion where he was a former elder, usher and assisted with communion. He was a member and former commander of the Orion American Legion Post #255; and a former president of the Pattern Makers Union. Paul was an avid golfer and bowler, and in his younger years played softball.
