Paul “Ponyo” Parks, 72, of East Moline, IL, died Monday, October 3, 2016, at home.
Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no services. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Paul was born on April 21, 1944, in Preston, Kemper County, MS, the son of Walter Boyd and Rubie Parks. He was baptized on April 21, 1996, at Good News Baptist Church in San Diego, CA, and graduated from Davenport Central High School, where he was a member of both the football and track teams. Paul married Sharon Turner on October 11, 1962, in Moline, IL. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. and achieved Corporal Rank. He went on to work as a contract surveillance specialist for Camp Pendleton.
Paul loved to race cars and was a NHRA member. He won many awards and trophies from multiple Midwest raceways. He especially loved westerns, which were always tuned in on his t. v.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Parks; daughter, Shirrelle (Cecil Jackson) Jones; son, Mark Parks; siblings, Wydell Boyd, Judy Boyd-Hillebrand, and Warren Boyd; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Rubie Boyd; son, Paul Parks, Jr.; and grandparents, Willie and Nelly Parks.
