Paul S. Thompson, 70, of Coal Valley, IL, died Monday, January 16, 2017, at Iowa City VA Health Care System, Iowa City, IA.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2017. at the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 246. Those wishing to attend should meet at 9 a.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Memorials may be made to his family.
Paul was born May 19, 1946, in Chillicothe, OH, the son of Paul Edward & Daisy M. Martin Thompson. He married Lorna J. Hooker Maxwell on December 18, 1993 in Moline, IL.
Paul was an Army Special Forces and Navy veteran and was a former member of the VFW – East Moline. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, and riding motorcycles.
Survivors include Lorna; his 3 children, Lisa Thompson, Olathe, KS, Eric E. (Hallie Robinson) Thompson, Prophetstown, IL, and Christopher Lee (Jessica M.) Thompson, Moline, IL; step children, Robert (Aimee) Maxwell, Carbon Cliff, IL, Christina Hicks, Aledo, IL, and Jonathan (Autumn) Maxwell, East Moline, IL; several grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brother, Charles A. (Mary) Thompson, Flowery Branch, GA; dear close friends, Herb and Sherry Plumb, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Samuel J. Thompson.
