Penny Louise Hewitt

Penny Louise Hewitt, 55, of Rock Island, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 19, 2018, at home surrounded by her family.

A Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Bethany Baptist Church, 700 35th Ave Place, Moline, with Jerry Schrick officiating.  A memorial visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service, at the church.  Burial will be at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Clanton, AL.  Memorial will be at Ellison Funeral Home in Clanton, AL.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church, Moline, or ALS Foundation for Life.

Penny was born on August 10, 1962, in Clanton, AL, in her Aunt Effie’s house, the daughter of Sue Culp.  She attended school at Isabella High School, Isabella, AL.  Penny married Melvin Hewitt on May 15, 1981, in Charleston, SC.

Penny is survived by her husband, Melvin; three sons, Melvin (Stacey) Hewitt of Bondurant, IA, Shane (Kim) Hewitt of Charles City, IA, and Brian (Amanda) Hewitt, Davenport, IA; daughter, Latoya McMillin, Sherrard, IL; 10 grandchildren, Chase, Lane, Dakota, Tristan, Lauren, Kiya, McCain, Brooklyn, Caiden, and Maci Jo; father, Levis Peters of Jemison, AL; and siblings, Kenneth (Cindy) Peters, Jemison, AL, Kleasa (Mike) Boozer of Mobile, AL, Wayne (Vivian) Peters of Jemison, AL, Audra Peters of Charleston, WV, Dewayne Culp of Gulf Shores, AL, and Dawn Culp of Clanton, AL.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sue Culp, and sister, Darlene Moates.
