Phyllis M. Williams, age 87, of East Moline, died Saturday, August 20, 2011, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2011, at Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, followed by a visitation and reception at the church. Private family interment will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Women's Cunningham Children's Home or Trinity Pathway Hospice, Terrace Park.
Phyllis was born June 7, 1924, in Preston, Minnesota, the daughter of Nathaniel John and Clara Estelle Engrav Martin. She graduated from West Union High School in Iowa in 1942 and attended Iowa State College in Ames. She joined the U.S. Army Cadet Nurse Corp in 1943. Phyllis graduated from the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, MN in 1946. She married Richard Carroll "Dick" Williams on November 3, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church in West Union, IA. The couple moved to Ames and Phyllis worked as a private duty nurse at the Mary Greeley Hospital while her husband finished Veterinary School. The couple moved to Moline in 1949.
Phyllis was an active member of the Riverside United Methodist Church and many other community organizations. She was past president of the Auxiliary to the Mississippi Valley Veterinary Medical Association and the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, John Deere Junior High School PTA, PEO Chapter IS, Riverside United Methodist Women, Newcomer's Club and Illini Hospital Auxiliary. She was a past district representative of the Cunningham Children's Home, Urbana, IL and program chair of the Moline Women's Club.
Phyllis enjoyed many hobbies, especially contract and duplicate bridge.
