Pvt. Fay Gene Teter

Pvt. Fay Gene Teter, 17, of Rock Island, was killed in action at Betio, Tarawa Atoll, Gilbert Islands on November 22, 1943. He was accounted for in August of 2022 and has been brought home. Private services were held and full military honors were conducted. Burial was at St. Ann’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Long Grove, Iowa. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, assisted the family. Fay was born on December 11, 1925, in Ardmore, Missouri, the son of Fay and Bertha L. (Boyd) Teter. He attended Rock Island High School and before serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, Fay was employed at the former Bridge and Iron Works in Rock Island. Survivors include his brother, Norman (Shirley) Teter & family of Silvis; sister, Judy Jo Hartman & family of Moline. His parents, Bertha Teter & Fay Teter, and sister, Bonnie Bopes have passed away.
