Quentin Stromquist

September 29, 1918 — December 1, 2007

Quentin Stromquist, age 89, of Orion, died Saturday, December 1, 2007 at his home.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Kirk, Huggins, & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion. Visitation is from 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial is in Western Township Cemetery, Orion with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #255. Memorials may be made to the Orion Volunteer Fire Department.
Quentin Stromquist was born September 29, 1918, at his home in New Windsor, IL the son of Gilbert and Edith (Mattson) Stromquist. There to welcome him was a brother Glenn and a sister Ferne. He grew up in that area. As an adult he moved away, met and married Connie Hedges. They had two children, Etta and Debbie.
Quent answered the call to serve his country and joined the Navy. He served in the south pacific, at one time being secretary to his ship's commadore. He returned home, joined the reserves, and a few months later was called to serve again, this time stateside.
Eventually they moved to Orion. He worked a variety of jobs and during these years he served Orion as mayor, a position he held for ten years.
On August 11th, 1974 he married Norma (Thurmon) Green. They have made their home in Orion since that time. Their families have added to their happiness these many years.
Quentin was employed in the shipping department by the former American Machine & Metal Company, East Moline for 8 years; John Deere Harvester, East Moline in the sales department, auditor and small repairs for 9 years; owner of Quentin Standard Service in Orion for 18 years; meter reader for Sherrard Power for 10 years; worked at Bank Orion in maintenance for 14 years; and served as clerk and trustee for the Village of Orion. Quentin was a member of Orion United Methodist Church, was a WW II Navy and Korean War veteran, a 25 year former member of Mason's of Orion, former Lion's Club member of Orion, a member of American Legion Post #255, Orion, and a volunteer fireman in Orion.
Quent will be remembered as a soft-spoken, gentle man who was ready to help anyone. He loved and valued his friends and will be missed by all who loved him.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Stromquist and step-son Jerry Green.
