Ralph Waldo Hansen, 76 of Moline died October 19, 2004 at his home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church 1330-13th St., Moline. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Augustana College Ralph W. Hansen Scholarship Fund or to Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline where he was a member.
Dr. Hansen was born November 21, 1927 to Professor Ralph Martin and Ruth Erickson Hansen in Dannebrog, NE. He married Alvina C. Meyer on August 22, 1948 in Salem, Oregon.
Dr. Hansen graduated in 1948 from Midland College in Freemont, NE. In 1951 he earned his B.D. in theology at Central Lutheran Seminary in Freemont, NE. He started the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Long Beach, CA in 1951. From 1954-1958 he served St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Madison, IA. From 1958-1963 he attended University of Iowa where he earned Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology.
Dr. Hansen began his career at Augustana College in 1961as a professor in psychology. From 1964-1976 he was the Department Chair for the psychology department. He organized and directed the Student Counseling Service at Augustana College. He did post doctoral work in the fields of experimental psychology, group facilitators, humanistic psychology, general semantics and stress management. In 1986 the Ralph Hansen Scholarship Fund was established to honor his 25 years in teaching. A year later in 1987 Augustana College selected Dr. Hansen as the first Violet Jaeke Professor of Family Life. Dr. Hansen retired in 1993.
Dr. Hansen loved teaching and counseling. He loved fishing, camping, reading and never missed his daily crossword puzzles.
Ralph loved his family and adored his wife Alvina, of 56 years. He is also survived by his children;
