Ramona Lackey, age 86, formerly of the Quad Cities and Monmouth, IL, passed away on April 21, 2024, surrounded by family members in the comfort of her own home. She was a devoted mother, and grandmother, and was cherished by everyone who knew her.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday April 30, 2024, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday April 29, 2024, at the funeral home with a rosary to be recited at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family.
Ramona was born on July 11, 1937, in Moline, the daughter of Julian and Josephine (Mendoza) Morales. She married James Lackey on August 17, 1977, in Monmouth and later had their marriage blessed at St. Pius X Catholic Church on April 22, 1989. He preceded her in death on November 4, 2010. Ramona graduated from Alleman High School and was previously employed with Tupperware, Avon, Montgomery Ward and the Quad City Times. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Ramona found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for cooking delicious family recipes, making wine with her husband Jim, creating beautiful crochet pieces, tending to her garden, and indulging in her favorite soap operas. She also liked to square dancing with Jim. She enjoyed her summers with her friends and family at Lake Warren in Monmouth, IL. Her warm smile and kind heart touched the lives of all who knew her.
Later in life, Ramona was a dedicated member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus in Rock Island, IL, a board member and active resident of Lake Warren, and a Sunday school teacher, it was in these roles where she found camaraderie and shared her love for serving others.
She is survived by her daughters, Mona (Richard) Jansen, Melissa (Ted) Baumbach, Kathleen (Ron) Johnson, and Josie Epping, and siblings Richard, Danny, and Gilbert Morales, Carmen Castro, Terry Mathias, Eleanor Morales, and Mary Cruse. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents Julian and Josephine Morales, daughters Isidara Granados and Suzie Yackley, and grandchildren Joshua Baumbach, Adam Jansen, Richie Jansen, and Jeremiah Baumbach.
