Ray Matthews, 71, of Edgington, IL, left this earth on December 13, 2006 to be with his heavenly Father, leaving behind his much loved wife and family.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2006 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be held Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Edgington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to his family for a fund to be established.
Ray was born December 16, 1934 in Smithville, AR to Deurin Orville and Lucy Davis Matthews. He married Shirley Lynch on September 2, 1954 in Lynn, AR.
Ray worked at Rock Island Mill Works, was a machinist for 20 years at Farmall, and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal on July 31, 1999.
Ray was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Germany from 1955-1958. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Muscatine, IA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, feeding his squirrels, and going to Blue Grass concerts. He attended and was an avid supporter of his grandchildren's sporting events.
