Ray Surber

Raymond N. Surber, 84, of Moline, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Heartland Health Care Canter, Moline.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, December 14, 2018, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Island.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory., Moline.  Burial will be at Rose-Lawn Memorial Estate.  Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Ray was born on October 19, 1934, in Seymour, IL, the son of Olen and Mabel (Robinson) Surber.  He married Sharon Rose Sparks on November 21, 1953 in Deland, IL.  She preceded him in death on August 7, 1988.  Ray had worked as an installer for Western Electric for 31 years, retiring in 1985.  He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rock Island, and the Pioneers Volunteer Group and also involved with area democratic politics.  Ray previously enjoyed dancing with his love, his wife.

Survivors include his daughter, Margaret Warner, Moline; grandchildren, April Thompson, Moline, Bryan (Dina) Thompson, Silvis, Ian (Amber) Rigg, Evansville, WI; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Alfred (Betty) Surber, San Antonio, TX, Bob (Darlene) Surber, Rantoul, IL; sisters, Irene (Eddie) Burton, Mahomet, IL, and Patsy (Wayne) Prunty, Moline, and Crystal (Dennis) Acuncius, Henderson, NV; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife and 5 sisters.
