Rev. Vernon Findley, age 88, of Moline, died Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.
Funeral services will be10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Bethel Assembly of God, 3535-38th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Burial is at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to Bethel Assembly of God, Rock Island.
Vernon was born September 22, 1922 in Des Moines, IA, the son of Harry and Bertha Findley. He married Lila B. Lilliman on February 8, 1952 in Rock Island.
Vernon had many jobs, but retired from the Rock Island Arsenal as a fork lift operator on October 31, 1985 after 20 years. He was an army veteran, serving 3 years in war time, participating at the Battle of the Bulge, and 3 years in peace time. Vernon was a lay minister, and was involved with many ministries including prison ministry, and was a rescue mission director for 6 years. He attended Bethel Assembly of God. Vernon taught Bible study, and read the bible many times. He won a literary essay with his work entitled "Does God Exist".
