Richard “Buck” A. Buckwalter

Richard “Buck” A. Buckwalter, of Moline, passed away Tuesday January 14, 2025, on his 85th birthday, at UnityPoint Health Trinity Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday January 22, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday January 21, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Buck was born on January 14, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Ray and Dorothy (Nieuwenhuis) Buckwalter. He was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Marine Corps. Buck married Virginia “Ginny” Wilhelm on August 30, 1963, in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2009. He worked as a machinist, retiring from the Rock Island Arsenal. Buck was a member of the Mississippi Valley Wood Carvers Association. He enjoyed playing country music on his guitar at the V.F.W. in East Moline.

Survivors include his sons, Marty (Lisa) Buckwalter, John Buckwalter; grandchildren, Alex Buckwalter, Allie (Elliott) Manuel, Kylie (Brady) Junk; great grandchild, Bradley Junk; sister, Mickey Buckwalter; brother, Bob (Shirley) Buckwalter.

He was preceded in death by his wife and grandchild, Ryan Buckwalter.
