Richard Hillbert Jr., 85 of Moline died December 19, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, IL.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2004 with a visitation one hour prior to service time at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
Richard Hillbert Jr. was born in Geneseo, IL, May 21, 1919, the first child of Richard Twiss Hillbert and Elizabeth Heartz Randles Hillbert. The family moved to Moline in 1927. Richard attended schools in Moline and graduated from Moline High School in 1937.
He was first employed at Deere & Mansur Works in Moline in 1937 in the Accounting and the Purchasing Departments.
He married Josephine Compas of New Boston.
During World War II he served in the Army of the United States (Ordnance Department specializing in vehicle parts warehousing and inventory control). His overseas duty included the European Campaign (France and Germany), Asiatic-Pacific Campaign (Phillipines) and the Occupation of Japan. Honorably discharged from military service, he returned to employment at Deere & Mansur Works which shortly thereafter was renamed John Deere Planter Works.
He held several positions in the Purchasing Department until in 1954 he was appointed Production Control Manager for John Deere Planter Works. In 1964 he transferred to Deere & Company, Administration Center and accepted a three year assignment to Deere's European Office in Germany. In Europe he engaged in projects for management concerning Production Control in Deere's German, French and Spanish factories. In 1967 he returned to Deere in Moline and accepted an advisory assignment to John Deere in Mexico. After that assignment he returned to Moline and over the next several years was engaged in a number of advisory assignments. In 1975 he returned to Mexico for a special management advisory post where he remained for the next several years. Again returning to Moline he was engaged in additional local projects until he retired in 1982 after 44 years of service with Deere.
He is survived by Josephine, his dearly beloved wife of 65 years, a son, John W. Hillbert, daughter Pat (James R. ) Christiansen, Moline, grandchildren, Jill Christiansen Latting (David), Decorah, IA, Susan Christiansen Hintz (Charles), Scott Christiansen (Kami), Moline, Tim Hillbert, (Tempe, AZ), a nephew, Doug Hillbert, Apple Valley, CA and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded by his parents, a brother Earl (his only sibling), and a son Michael R. Hillbert.
