Richard E. Murphy, 75, of Moline, died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at his home with his son and daughter by his side.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday March 20, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation from 12:00-1:00 prior to the service at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. The family will also have Richard's artwork on display at this time. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline with military honors conducted by American Legion Post # 246. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association or the Kidney Foundation.
Richard was born on August 22, 1930, to Joseph and Mildred Thompson Murphy in Moline. He attended Moline Schools where he excelled in sports. He fought on the front lines during the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He married Suzann Spencer on November 12, 1956 in Terre Haute, Indiana. She preceded him in death on August 29, 2003.
Richard retired from John Deere Harvester Works in 1987 as an inspector with 48 years of service.
He was one of the great great grandsons of the Queens Surveyor, Lord Peter Henry Olgelvee. He enjoyed his walks on beautiful days with his dog Molly and also listening to Big Band Music. He was known for his integrity and principles. He was an avid Fighting Irish fan and a Fighting Irishman to the end.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother Donald Murphy.
