Richard E. Nelson, age 79, of Milan, IL, died Sunday, October 21, 2012, at Trinity, Muscatine.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal at a later date. Military Honors will be performed by the Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to Union Congregational Church.
Richard was born on April 8, 1933, in Moline, IL, the son of Clark and Ruth Nelson. He graduated from Moline High School and later married Jo Ann Barnahart on February 28, 1987 at Union Congregational Church in Moline. Richard worked as a meat cutter at Eagle's and then a housekeeper at Trinity Muscatine. He loved riding his bicycle and rode in the RAGBRAI race twice. Also, he enjoyed playing baseball and watching football.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Schumacher, and brother, Frank Nelson.
