Robert W. Hellberg, 91, of Moline, IL, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, IL.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Military honors will be conducted at 5 p.m. by the Moline American Legion Post 246. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be at Moline Memorial Park at a later date. Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
Robert was born on October 29, 1925, in Moline, IL, the son of Gosta R. and Martha I. Carlin Hellberg. He married Virginia P. Johnson on September 8, 1951, in Davenport, IA, and she preceded him in death on September 4, 2005. He worked as an experimental mechanic for John Deere.
Robert was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Moline Vikings Club and the Moline American Legion Post 246. Robert enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening, and traveling.
Survivors include his daughters, Barbara (John) Dinquel, Moline, IL, and Nancy (Jeff) Raes, Coal Valley, IL; daughter-in-law, Gail Hellberg, Orion, IL; grandchildren, Kristina (Steven Galanius) Dinquel, Davenport, IA, Kayla Dinquel, Phoenix, AZ, Rebecca Dinquel, Rock Island, IL, Matthew W. Dinquel (Mariko), Ingleside, IL, Sarah Raes (Craig Rule), Moline, IL, Jeff Raes (Taylor) Waterloo, WI, Dylan Raes, Palatine, IL, Katherine Hellberg, Orion, IL, and Karl Hellberg, Orion, IL; 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son, Robert Hellberg, Jr.
