Robert Bengston Hultgren, 79, of Moline, IL., died Saturday, October 16, 2004 at Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover, IL. Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be in Andover Cemetery, Andover. Military rites will be conducted by Andover American Legion Post # 465. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline, Augustana Lutheran Church,Andover or the Andover Historical Society.
Bob was born November 29, 1924 in Andover, IL. to Luther and Hilma (Bengston) Hultgren. He married Dorothy Jean Sten on June 19, 1949 in Andover.
Bob served in the U.S. Marines 1942-1945. He gained the rank of Tech. Sgt. and was an instructor in Sea Survival School in Hawaii.
Bob earned a Bachelor's Degree from Illinois State University, and a Master's Degree from Colorado State University. He pursued Doctoral Studies at University of Oregon. He did graduate work at New Mexico, Northern IL.,Eastern Michigan, and Syracuse Universities.
Bob spent his vocational life in education. He was principal, teacher, and coach of Rockbridge Grade School. then Elementary Supervisor of Greenfield Unit District. He was a principal, then Deputy Superintendent in the Joliet Public Schools. He retired from the Park Ridge School District 64 as Assistant Superintendent for Personnel. Bob was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, American Scandinavian Assoc., Moline Vikings, Bishop Hill Heritage Assoc., Andover Historical Assoc., National Education Assoc., Illinois Assoc. of School Personnel, and American Legion.
Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Dorothy, Moline; daughters Beverly (Carl) Kwasigroch, Monee,IL; Kit (Darryl) May, Colorado Springs, Co., Paula (Matthew) Randall, Melbourne, Australia; grandchildren Stephanie, Matthew, and Jeffrey Spain; Jacqueline and Andrew Kwasigroch; Nicholas, Eric, and Stacey May; sister Frances (Wally) Weidenhoeft, step-brother LeeBud Vincent; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Lamont, step-brother Duane; sisters Junette, June, Vergelene, and Doris.
