Robert L. Meyer, age 75, of Erie was called home by his Lord & Savior on Saturday, April 10, 2010. He passed away at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation will be at Countryside Christian Church, Port Byron, on Tuesday, April 13 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Service will be held at Countryside Christian Church on Wednesday, April 14 at 11:00 a.m. Officiants will be Terry Green & Rex Young. Burial is in Bethesda Cemetery, Memorials may be made to the Christian Care Domestic Vionlence Center. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Moline is assisting the family.
Robert Leroy Meyer was born July 14, 1934 to Melvin and Frances Griede Meyer in Erie. He graduated from Erie High School in 1951. He was employed at Erie Lumber & Grain and retired from Case I H in 1992 after 29 years. He was a member of Local Union 1304.
He was united in marriage to Johanne Church on January 9, 1955 in the United Methodist Church, Prophetstown.
Bob was a lifelong "Die Hard Cubs Fan", farming was his passion, he enjoyed farming with his brother-in-law and nephew. He was an avid farm toy collector going to countless toy shows over the years, and he loved to play cards in his spare time.
The greatest pride and joy of his life was being a loving husband and Dad, but most of all he was proud of being a Grampa and Great-Grampa and loved every minute he spent with his grandchildren.
He was of the Christian faith and loved and trusted his Heavenly Father all of his life.
Robert is survived by his wife, Johanne, children, Kevin, Tennessee, Crystal (Jim) Kosz, Wisconsin, Carmen (Tim) Laisner, Bettendorf, and Coral Minge, Moline, Grandchildren, Brock & Aaron Meyer, Brandy, Casey & Grant Laisner, Ashley Kosz, Brooke Snowden, & Kortney Minge. Great-grandchildren, Quenten & Jameson Fisher, Sailor & Braxton Hager, sister, Sharon Border, Erie, brother-in-law, Gordon Young, Erie, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Alberta Young and Erma Weber, and his son-in-law, David Minge.
