Robert E. Pappas, age 86, of Rock Island, died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at his residence.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 15, 2010 from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Inurnment will be immediately following the visitation at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, with military honors conducted by Milan American Legion Post # 569. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should be at the funeral home by 1:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to Milan American Legion Honor Guard.
Robert was born April 8, 1924 in Silvis, the son of Charles and Helen (Nickel) Pappas. Beryl Verstreater preceded him in death.
Robert was employed as an assembler for John Deere Harvester in East Moline for 26 years, retiring in July, 1980. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Robert was a life member and former trustee of the Milan American Legion Post #569, a member of UAW 865 in East Moline where he was also a former union steward and financial secretary for 7 years, past president and vice president of Cap Council, former president of the Florida Ninth Infantry Division, life member of VET Under Age Military Service, and life member of D.A.V. and the V.F.W of Rock Island.
