Robert “Bob” M. Spain, 77, formerly of Moline and Carbon Cliff, passed away Saturday March 9, 2024, at Silver Cross Nursing Home, Rock Island.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday March 14, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4800 Kennedy Drive, East Moline, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be an opportunity to visit with the family following the services.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Bob was born on June 27, 1946, in Moline, the son of Robert N. and Buenos (Jeffryes) Spain. He graduated from Moline High School where he was the leading tackler for the football team. He married Genita M. Barber on December 18, 1971, in Moline. Bob was previously employed at Deere & Company and later at Bowe Machine in Bettendorf. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed woodworking and in his younger years was a professional baseball umpire.
Survivors include his wife, Genita; sons, Michael Spain, Shawn (Karen) Spain; daughter, Merry (Ryan Mitro) Spain; sister, Margaret (Frank) Utterback; grandchildren, Natalie, Robert, Clayton, Timothy, Asher, Phoebe, Melanie; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister and parents.
