Robert Edward Winterbottom, 90, of East Moline, formerly of Rapids City, IL died January 8, 2010 at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.
Rite of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary recited at 4:45 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to the church.
Robert was born September 11, 1919 in Rock Island to Albert and Mary (DeCleene) Winterbottom. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1938. He married Elta Mae Schnoor on November 2, 1939 in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on June 23, 1987. He later married C. Jeanette Lack on April 29, 1989 in Rapids City, IL.
Robert served his apprenticeship at L&W then worked at Paulson Electrician, Moline, then the former State Hospital, East Moline, retiring in 1980.
Robert was an electrician for the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was a member of Moline V.F.W., Moline American Legion Post #246 and a 68 year member of Local IBEW. He enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting and traveling. He and Elta went by motor car and visited all 48 states. He had cruised the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Alaska and had traveled to Hawaii, and Europe with Jeanette. He and Jeanette also wintered from 1992-2006 in Bradenton, FL for six months out of the year.
He is survived by Wife Jeanette, Step-Children Bill J. Lack of Moline, Richard E. (Denise) Lack of Colona, Jerry W. (Cathy) Lack of East Moline, David A. (Lil) Lack of Northeast, Maryland, John M. (Kelly) Lack of Colona, Major Robert M. (Julia) Lack of Woodbridge, VA, Jennifer (David) Anderson of Colon, Lisa Lack of Colona; 13 step-grandchildren and 1 great step-grandson; Sister Mary Ann (Bill) Stanforth of Rock Island, Nephews Donald (Rita) Stanforth of Davenport, Richard (Sheila) Stanforth of Rock Island and Paul (Carol) Stanforth of Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his first wife Elta.
