Robert “Bob” H. Alvine, 79, of Moline, passed away Tuesday December 5, 2023, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023, at First Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Burial of cremains will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moline at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church of Moline, where Bob was a lifetime member.
Bob was born on January 29, 1944, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Hugo F. and Linnea (Sandholm) Alvine. His family moved to DesMoines where he grew up. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in DesMoines. He then attended SMU, the University of Iowa and Drake University during his undergraduate studies. He was a graduate of Drake University Law School, receiving his Juris Doctor Degree in 1968. He then took a job with the Iowa Attorney General's Office. In 1969, he returned to his hometown of Moline and worked as an attorney with John Sandholm. Bob practiced law in Moline for 54 years, retiring in August, 2023.
In 1968, Bob joined the Illinois National Guard where he served and attained the rank of second lieutenant. It was there he made a number of lifelong friends, including a couple who set him up on a blind date with a teacher named Barb. He married Barbara Newell on March 11, 1972, in Moline and together they had two sons.
Bob was incredibly active in his community, serving as the past president of the Rotary Club of Moline and the Rock Island County Bar Association. He was also a 50-year Illinois Bar Committee Chair and served six terms in the Illinois General Assembly.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Barb; sons, Robert Alvine, Moline, and Eric Alvine, Chicago; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joanne M. Wisemiller.
