Rodney Kent Lindgren

December 28, 1941 — January 10, 2011

Rodney Kent Lindgren, 69, of Lynn Center, died January 10, 2011 surrounded with the love of his family, friends, and Pastor Mike Lawyer at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, Illinois.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1001 9th Street, Orion. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M., Friday, January 14, 2011 in The Ark of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Orion. Kirk, Huggins, & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers Rod's wishes were for memorials to be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Sunday School.
Rod was born on December 28, 1941 in Moline, Illinois to Dale and Celia Anderson Lindgren. He married Mary Lois Stockhecke on July 8, 1978 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Mendon, Illinois.
After graduating from the University of Illinois Rod served in the Peace Corps in Brazil. Later he was employed by his uncle at Midwest Bowling Supply, and then he began farming in Henry County. Rod was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and many committees including the endowment, learning, property, and the building renovation which was instrumental in the building of The Ark. Rod was Sunday School superintendent for 23 years and was on the Lutheran Cemetery Board. Rod served on the Henry County Farm Bureau Board and was a 4-H leader for Western Jr. Farmers. He was a member of the Orion High Music Boosters and won the Orion Education Association Friend of Education Award. Rod loved playing in the Orion Community Band where he was a charter member. He enjoyed reading, photography, and model railroading. He was a collector of stamps, toy tractors, and Dept. 56 Village pieces. Above all else, "Pa" loved his grandchildren who were his pride and joy.
