Rodney Richardson, 83, of East Moline, formerly of St.George, Bermuda died March 22, 2007 at Heartland Healthcare Center, Moline.
Funeral services will be 11a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2007 with a visitation one hour prior at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, East Moline. Rev. P. Wonder Harris will be officiating. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Moline is assisting the family.
Rodney was born November 20, 1923 in Bermuda, the fifth and youngest child of Thomas Manassah and Inez Geraldine ( Minors) Richardson. He married Catherine Perinchief on December 14, 1950, who is deceased. He later married Eleanor ( Waldron) Cuerington on April 25, 1999 in Hawaii.
Rodney's early education was at The East End Primary School in St. George. He worked many years as a butcher at the then F. C. Outerbridge Supermarket in Bermuda, and later was promoted to manager. Rodney always thought of St. George as home, but he also lived in Bailey's Bay and Southampton.
Rodney was a L/Cpl in the Bermuda Contingent of the First Battalion Caribbean Regiment during World War II from 1943 returning to Bermuda January, 1946. He held the position of President of the following associations: The St. George Rotary Association, The St. George Mutual Aid Society, and The Royal Artillary Association. In 1999 he became a member of The Bermuda War Pensions Commission and proudly served until he moved from Bermuda. Rodney was a member of the Church Lad's Brigade and an avid supporter of The Bermuda Regiment Band and The Somerset Brigade Band. Rodney traveled the world and enjoyed cruising best of all!
