Roger A. Lawson

June 1, 1946 — December 4, 2004

Roger A. Lawson, 58 of Orion died Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.
Services will be 1p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Roger Lawson Scolarship Fund or to Oak Glen Home.
Roger was born June 1, 1946, in Moline, the youngest child of Donald James Lawson and Phyllis Mae Wilson. His position as youngest in the family was due to his being born one minute after his twin sister Rosalyn. He suffered a serious head injury due to a truck accident at the age of sixteen. With persistence and determination he was able to regain the use of his legs and most of his other abilities and finally graduated from Orion High School in 1966. He attended United Electronics Institute in West Des Moines, IA and worked for the Army Corps of Engineers at the Arsenal. Later he worked for the Sherrard Power System in Orion and for the Orion School District as a custodian.
In recent years, Roger became a well-known figure in Orion as he ran errands for local businesses and individuals. Always ready with a smile, a wave, or the joke of the day, he found a way to commute with everyone even after he lost his larynx to cancer four years ago.
A member of the United Methodist Church of Orion, he is survived by his sister Judith of Orion, his aunt Mrs. Geraldine Everitt of Freeport, and several cousins. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, and his twin sister Rosalyn.
