Roland Francis Fisher, 89, of Moline, a resident of Hope Creek Care Center, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2011, at Hope United Church of Christ, 3324 41st St., Moline. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Roland was born May 3, 1922, in Lynn, Massachusetts, the son of Charles and Augusta Bratt Fisher. He married his wife of 65 years, Mina Margaret Scherer, on March 2, 1946, in Moline.
He was a WWII Army veteran, serving with the Engineering Corps in the Pacific. Roland had previously been a self-employed contractor/carpenter. He graduated from the English High School in Lynn, MA. He was a member and integral part of Hope United Church of Christ, where he supervised the construction of the church. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and woodworking.
