Ron Cress

Ronald “Ron” H. Cress, 88, of Davenport, IA passed away Friday September 15, 2023, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday September 27, 2023, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until services.  The burial will be at the Orion Lutheran Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.  Memorials may be made to Q.C. Paws.

Ron was born on July 13, 1935, in Davenport, the son of Ray and Ethel (Bowden) Cress. He was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Navy. Ron married Debra “Debbie” Swanson on May 7, 1977, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Ron was store manager for Eagles in Rock Island, Bettendorf and East Moline before eventually becoming a district manager in the Chicago area.  He went on to become senior Vice President of Operations before retiring from Eagles. Ron enjoyed golfing and bird hunting. He was a talented leather crafter, woodworker and trap shooter. Ron especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons Jaden and Jacob, and also watching Iowa Hawkeyes football.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie; children, Katie Rurka, Joseph Cress, Jason (Debbie) Cress; grandchildren, Jaden and Jacob Rurka; siblings, Sharen (Scott) Abbott, Gary (Barb) Cress, Dan (Debbie) Cress; several nieces and nephews; and his cat, Shadow.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Terri Lang.
