Ronald L. Flood age 67, of Orion, died Saturday, May 14, 2011.
Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial services will be 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Orion United Methodist Church. Celebration of Life Visitation with family and friends is from 2:00-6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Ron was born December 7, 1943 in Geneseo, IL, the son of Chester and Hermina Verheye Flood of Osco. He was raised and schooled in Osco and Orion, Illinois.
Ron married Patricia Welvaert on December 26, 1964 in Geneseo, IL and she survives.
He was a Sunday school teacher 10 years and Church Youth group leader 8 years. He coached youth baseball and girls softball for over 20 years. He not only believed in teaching the game but the kids to believe in themselves. He has served on various community committees and received the Keith L. Payne Orion's Citizen of the Year Award in 2002.
He joined the Orion Lions Club in 1989 and served in many of the offices and committees. He joined the district cabinet in 1992 and served in many capacities. He was elected to serve as District Governor in 1997 and served as Vice Council Chairman 1997-1998. In 2009 he was elected to serve as the District Trustee for the Lions of Illinois Foundation. He was elected to serve as President of the Foundation in 2012. Always giving, his donation wishes were honored through the Gift of Hope, organ and tissue donations.
He worked in the communications industry most of his life, retiring in 2010 from Frontier Communications. He served as DMS 10 Chairman 1995 & 1996 for Illinois, served as Frontiers facilitator for the Ethics & Values program in Illinois. He also served on numerous committees for the industry both local and statewide and received the Frontier Communications Outstanding Achievement Award.
His family includes his wife Pat, step father Leonard Lindell; son Scott (Lori) Flood of Cambridge, daughters Lori (Jon) Pohl of Moline and Chris (Doug) Nelson of Moline. Grandchildren Kaila, Kristin, Nicholas, Jenny, Michael, Breann, Nathan, Jeremy, Skylar and Great Grandkids Dominic, Owyn, and Ellianna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Flood and Hermina Lindell; and grandparents.
