Ronald J."Joe" Payne, 60 of Orion died December 1, 2008 at his home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. Orion. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery, Orion. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Western Township Cemetery Association.
Joe was born October 8, 1948 in Moline to Francis "Pete" and Vivian Stevenson Payne. He married Beverly Gibson on September 28, 1968 in Pleasant Hill, IA. She preceded him in death on September 9, 2007.
Joe graduated from United Electronics Institute in Des Moines. He was employed for 30 years in marketing and operational services for IBM, retiring in 2003.
From 1968-1974 he served in the National Guard. Joe was a master gardener for University of Illinois Extension Office in Rock Island County. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, a former member of Orion Lions Club and Colona United Way. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He also enjoyed his yearly hunting trips to South Dakota and his family canoe trips.
