Ross Neils Hailey, 65 of Rock Island died April 18, 2006 at his residence.
Funeral services will 11a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. conducted by the Doric Lodge No. 319 AF + A. M., Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 569/200 and the Rock Island VFW Post #1303. Memorials may be made to Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1112, Moline.
Ross was born September 5, 1940 in Chicago, IL to Samuel Boone and Dorothy (Neils) Hailey. He graduated from UTHS in 1958, Blackhawk College in 1968 and attended Augustana College. He married Beverly Jean Briesch on October 19, 1968 in Silvis, IL.
Ross served in the US Navy Reserves from 1957-1959. Then he served in the US Navy from 1959-1961, on the U.S.S. Du Pont Destroyer in the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas.
Ross was a foreman at IH for 25 years, was a foreman at J.I. Case, Tenneco for a year and he retired from the U.S. Army Munitions and Armaments Command on the Rock Island Arsenal in 2002 where he was an Industrial Specialist.
Ross was a very active member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1112, Moline where he organized the annual "Dirt Bag Golf Outing" for the past 12 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Rock Island and the Doric Lodge No. 319 AF + A.M., Moline, IL where he was Past Master. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Lodge Council Chapter, Consistory Valley of Moline and a member of the Kaaba Shriners of Davenport, IA. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.
Ross was an avid golfer. He was a Steamwheeler, Hawkeye, Cub and a Chicago Bear fan.
