Russell R. Carlson, age 89, of Swedona, died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Swedona Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time at the church. Burial is at Swedona Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church. Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl is assisting the family with arrangements.
Russell was born on November 11, 1922 at home in rural Henry County, the son of Victor and Esther Fransen Carlson. He married Marjorie Olivia Larson on December 15, 1945 in Andover. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2006.
Growing up during the depression, Russell assisted his father on the farm, working the 120 acres with their plow horses and picking the corn by hand, later on would drive trucks for his father to the Chicago Union Stock Yards; he later was employed by Deere Harvester Works for 25 years in the forge shop, retiring on June 1, 1985. After retirement he hauled livestock for his son's business; Dennis Carlson Trucking, for 7 years.
Russell enjoyed being outside whether he was golfing, cutting wood, fishing, gardening or camping. He also enjoyed bowling, although his true love was spending time with his family and playing cards. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Dennis Carlson; 2 brothers, Hank Carlson and Les Carlson and a sister Dorothy Wainwright.
