Ruth Ann O'Brien

Ruth Ann O’Brien, 73, of Moline, passed away April 11, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis Silvis Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday April 17, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. The private burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.

Ruth Ann was born on September 11, 1951, in Moline, the daughter of Beryl and Margarite (Fontenoy) Hicks. She married George O’Brien on December 28, 1973, in Moline. She loved tending to her flowers, antiquing, and crafting. Ruth Ann was a natural leader and was dedicated to nurturing children. She volunteered extensively for the Moline Coal Valley School District. She volunteered at countless school events, served on the Moline school board, and served two terms as the Moline Council PTA president. She was also her daughter’s Girl Scout troop leader for 3 years. Ruth Ann was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her kindness will be missed by all who knew her. She approached everything she did with unwavering resolution and always sought to do the right thing.

She is survived by her husband, George; son, Patrick (Nicole) O’Brien; daughter, Lindsey (Rachel Miller) O’Brien; granddaughter, Freya O’Brien; brother, Henry (Christine) Hicks; nephew, Seth (Robyn) Hicks.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
