Ruth A. Sommers, 86 of Moline died November 1, 2005 at St.Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2005 at Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church or Alzheimers Association.
Ruth was born November 5, 1918 in Moline to Christian A. and Christine Sorensen Sparling. She married Kenneth L. Sommers on July 26, 1941 in Moline.
Prior to her marriage, she worked as a supervisor/operator for the former Illinois Bell telephone company.
After marrying Kenneth she stayed home to raise her children. Later she worked as a floral designer for the former house of J.B., Moline after her children were raised.
Ruth was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline where she served as a former superintendent for the Sunday school program. In earlier years she served as a Girl Scout Leader. Ruth was an artist and belonged to the China Painters Guild. She was known for her outstanding cooking and baking.
