Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion. ***************
Ruth M. Westerlund, 97, of Orion, IL, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Trinity Rock Island, IL.
Ruth was born on April 11, 1915, in Round Lake, MN, the daughter of Clifford R. and Ida M. (Anderson) Peterson. She married Mahlon "Pete" Westerlund on December 26, 1945, in Orion. He preceded her in death on October 7, 1997. Ruth received her teaching certificate at WIU and began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse called Maple Hill which is east of Orion. She taught for the Orion School District from 1935 - 1951. In the 1970's she taught as a substitute teacher. Ruth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church as well as Welca & Carnation Circle. At St. Paul Lutheran Church she was a Sunday school teacher. Ruth was a former president of PTA when her children were in grade school.
